canon xc15 vs xc10 front left comparison

The Canon XC15 4K UHD Video Camcorder just announced is an upgrade for the XC10 that was released in April 2015. Both cameras are designed to be lightweight, compact optional cameras for the professional user. Ideal for the videographer or as a 'B' camera to complement the more advanced EOS Cxxx range of professional video cameras. Being small and lightweight allows the camera to be used in confined areas or when having to travel light.

Canon today, as rumored, have announced the new generation 5D Mark IV DSLR camera. This comes along with two new L-series lenses; the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens and the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM Standard Zoom Lens. There is also a new Battery Grip the BG-E20 to go with the new 5D Mark IV.

There are few surprises in this release as most of the information had been leaked in advance. One point of interest is a new max native ISO setting of 32000, up from the 5D Mark III of 25600. The new Dual Pixel RAW, in-camera Digital Lens Optimizer during JPEG shooting and Diffraction Correction technologies are new features that we will get to know more about in due time.

Nikon D5 top half

Nikon announced the new flagship DSLR the D5 at CES 2016. Impressive new 20.8M pixel full frame sensor. A 153 point auto-focus array giving greater coverage than ever before. Continuous shooting at 12 frames per second with full auto-focus and exposure. High resolution touch screen operation. So whats not to love?

Well, according to Andrew Reid at EOSHD the 4K is far from leading edge. So what, if anything, went wrong with Nikon's latest offering? read the article for full details but basically it boils down to this.

Still shooters and videographers are two different beasts. From my perspective of current buyers of still cameras, video is pretty much an irrelevence. As for 4K it holds little interest after that. So why should Nikon put so much effort into adding features that will cost a lot of time, development effort and additional buy price. Marketer love the 4K tag, still photographers will look for more important figures.
