Rumors of a new Canon PowerShot SX70 HS Bridge camera have been running for some time. These have been based on the current SX60 HS been out zoomed by the new Nikon P900 with its 83X zoom and Canon patents appearing to show a new 100X zoom lens is being developed.

Recently, the SX60 HS has been in very short supply in my ‘neck of the woods’ and that has led to customers expecting a new camera to be announced soon. That along with competition from Panasonic under-cutting on price with bridge cameras sporting wide aperture lenses.

So it is expected Canon will fight back very soon with a camera to compete. But do they go up market with a higher powered zoom or target a lower price for the mass consumer?

It has been a very busy time for Canon this year with the launch of two new professional DSLRs, the EOS 1Dx Mk ii and the EOS 5D Mk iv. Yet if the rumors are right they have still had time and resources to produce a new EOS M5 to replace the previous M3 Mirrorless camera. The Chinese word for 4 is too close to the similar word for death. The M5 is due to be announced on the 15th September 2016.

The Canon Mark IV DSLR is one of the most speculated upon cameras of the last 2 years. Rumours have it that it will be released on or just after the 25th August 2016. The announcement will be just in time for it to star at the upcoming Photokina Show in Cologne from the 20th to 25th September 2016.

The previous version of this camera, the Mark III, was announced in March 2012 but in the meantime there have been two high resolution versions of the camera, the 5Ds and 5Dsr. So 4 1/2 years have elapsed and that is plenty of time to make big technological advances. Some of those advances have been already implemented in the 5Dsr such as new mirror/shutter mechanism, intervalometer, flicker detection and viewfinder format masking.

So what will the new 5D Mark IV bring:

Canon are just about to lauch a new entry level DSLR camera the EOS 1300D (Rebel Tx / Kiss Xxx). At least that is the rumor going around. Price drops for its predecessor the 1200D (Rebel T5 / Kiss X70) seem to indicate that is quite likely.

Why would this come before the release of the new 100D (Rebel SL1 / Kiss X7) that had been rumored? Well currently in terms of pure DSLR the favored entry level cameras are the Canon EOS 100D and the Nikon D3300. Both are popular and offer slightly different options for the beginner.
