The Canon Mark IV DSLR is one of the most speculated upon cameras of the last 2 years. Rumours have it that it will be released on or just after the 25th August 2016. The announcement will be just in time for it to star at the upcoming Photokina Show in Cologne from the 20th to 25th September 2016.
The previous version of this camera, the Mark III, was announced in March 2012 but in the meantime there have been two high resolution versions of the camera, the 5Ds and 5Dsr. So 4 1/2 years have elapsed and that is plenty of time to make big technological advances. Some of those advances have been already implemented in the 5Dsr such as new mirror/shutter mechanism, intervalometer, flicker detection and viewfinder format masking.
So what will the new 5D Mark IV bring:
- A new Dual Pixel, 31.4M pixel sensor
- 4K Video with frame grab stills
- 7 frames a second bust mode
- GPS tracking built-in
- Touch screen for limited functions
- Wifi and NFC for connectivity
- Better low light focus
- All new features of 5Ds/r
- Lots more new features
The main question hanging over this camera that will not be answered until it gets out into the field and testing arena is that old chestnut, Dynamic Range. Will it compete with Sony on sensor quality. This camera will still sell by the ‘shed load’ whatever. Just a few more days until we find out.
