This month is again going to be a short version with just the important highlights, before a full review of the year 2016 when December figures are available next month. We are looking for evidence that the digital camera production and shipments are continuing to improve after months of short supplies. For a more in-depth analysis then look back at Global Digital Camera Market Report June 2016.

Expectations

November normal shows a marked downturn after camera shipments have been made to cover the holiday period. Since there has been a shortage of certain cameras all year it would be good to see the shipments continue to improve. This would especially help the compact fixed lens cameras.

There will only be one more month of 2016 to make up for what has been a disastrous year for the digital camera industry given that 4 of the major professional cameras have been updated this year and they have been well received so should have boosted the overall sales this year. Next year will not be so abundant in major camera revisions. We will have to wait for the full year results and predictions for 2017 to see where we are.

This months review of the CIPA Japanese Digital Still Camera statistics takes into account that the shortfall in production and shipment due to external factors, ie. earthquakes, means that a full year-on-year analysis is not appropriate. Still it would be useful to see a clear indication that things are getting back to normal and see what the new levels of camera shipments are likely to be. Again, for a more in-depth analysis then look back at Global Digital Camera Market Report June 2016.

Expectations

October is usually the peak month of the year for camera shipments. A month where cameras have to be supplied for the high spending season through Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and New Year celebrations. We need to see strong figures if this season is not to be a flop. There is little or no chance of making a full recovery but at least we should see good progress.

Again this month instead of publishing a full review of the CIPA digital camera market statistics we will just look at the most significant changes since last month's report. For a more in-depth analysis then look back at Global Digital Camera Market Report June 2016.

Expectations

September normally marks the start of 3 of the busiest months of Digital Camera shipments. This obviously to maximise sales in the high spending season through Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and New Year celebrations. Given the poor shipments of the previous 4 months, would September see a major rise in camera shipments. It sorely needed to!

Have the effects of the Kumamoto earthquakes settled down and are manufacturers ramping up production to regain some of the lost summer sales?

Expectations

The current state of the camera industry has led to a marked shortage of compact cameras for sale. This has been due in part to the April earthquake in Japan disrupting camera production. Is that the whole story or are manufacturers simply choosing to divert resources to more profitable products as the demand for low-cost stand-alone cameras decreases further?

Expectations

In previous years we have seen an upturn in the shipments of cameras in July. This most noticeable in the shipments of Interchangeable Lens Cameras but also has been there for Fixed Lens Cameras as well. So would 2016 follow the same pattern?

We also want to see some signs from production figures as to the start of any recovery from the well documented April Earthquake problems and the subsequent loss of camera production. If so, can we see an end to the current decline in the Digital Camera Market.
